"Inforama has integrated with our existing systems to create an economical, efficient and easy to use document generation process."

Technical Architect Healthscreen

Background

Prior to the introduction of Inforama, Healthscreen relied on MS Word's mail merge functionality as their main means of generating documents with no other particular technology to support the generation or management of documents. This approach had a number of challenges:

  • Documents were mostly static. The mail merge functionality of MS Word is limited in its ability to produce dynamic content including conditional text, table data, and images.
  • Document generation was done on the client side (desktop computer) and required significant manual effort.
  • Template management was poor and complicated.
  • No PDF document generation support.
  • Prone to human error and inconsistency with backend data systems.

Evaluation

In trying to address these shortcomings, Healthscreen investigated various solutions but decided on Inforama for the following reasons:

  • Cost effective - Cost of ownership is magnitudes lower than most vendor solutions.
  • Open Source Eco-system - The Inforama eco-system includes a number of technologies that Healthscreen currently uses including Tomcat, OpenOffice, SugarCRM and Alfresco ECM.
  • Flexibility - Inforama letters are extremely flexible and easily meet the requirements of Healthscreen.

System Integration Approach

Healthscreen use SugarCRM 5.x Professional edition to store physician contact information. A number of custom SugarCRM modules including letter management have been developed to cater for Healthscreen's particular requirements.

Salesforce Customization

  • SugarCRM is the main interface to generating documents for Sales reps. SugarCRM uses only built in functionality to call to the Healthscreen website for document generation.
  • The Healthscreen Tomcat server wraps access to the Inforama server to handle domain logic and Alfresco integration.
  • The Healthscreen website is used to extract documents from Alfresco (if sales reps write their own documents) upload projects to the Inforama server and acts as the main gateway to the Inforama server.
  • The Inforama server accesses information directly from MySQL database (both SugarCRM and Healthscreen data) and generates pdf documents.
